Next was the trek across the Inland Desert of Mælifellssandur. A 15 km walk across black lava sands that had virtually no altitude gain or loss.

We had another stream crossing. This one was shallow enought that I braved it in gaiters. I am happy to report I was successful and it allowed me to perch on the other side of the river so I could get photographs of everyone as they traversed the icy obstacle.
